I was contacted earlier this year by the good folks at the Phoenix Comicon regarding their film festival. They came across my BATrilogy online and asked me to submite 2 of the films (they have a 2 film limit per filmmaker) for their ‘fan film’ category. I submitted Batman’s Bad Day and Batman Versus Superman: A Duel to the Death (parts 2 and 3 of the ‘trilogy’) and they were both accepted. ‘Versus’ will be screening on Saturday the 29th in the morning and ‘Bad Day’ will be screening later that afternoon in the ‘spotlight series’ (only ‘Versus’ will be in competition).

I don’t expect to win any prizes or anything, but I’m very flattered to have the ‘con seek my work out and give it a platform for the audience it was intended for. I’m going to try and make it out to PHX for the event since the film festival programmer has graciously given me 4 all-access passes – a trip that would be a lot easier to make if I were still living in Tucson.

Speaking of Tucson – if you’re in the area, stop by Casa Video on Speedway and pick up a free rental copy of BATrilogy; I hear it’s pretty popular!!

The film, which was completed as part of the 6th annual Almost Famous Film Festival (www.thea3f.net), premiered at the AMC 24 in downtown Phoenix on February 25th as part of the Top 20 Public Screening.

The only film produced by a Tucson-based team, CHANGE was well received and even took home the prize for Best Original Score (thanks to our friends, the San Francisco-based Pocket Full of Rye, for writing a song in 12 hours!!).

CHANGE is the first Greenless Pictures production to shoot exclusively with a DSLR camera package, and it certainly won’t be the last. Hopefully, this 4-minute film will help showcase the many possibilities of a $600 camera with a $20 lens!

Now, the moment you all have been waiting for… view the movie right here (!!!!):

It was great to see the 3D come to life on The Loft’s BIG screen, and I’m really glad to have our effort recognized in the form of the ‘cinematography’ award. Also, big ups to Brigid who took home the ‘best actor’ statue for her portrayal of the titular ‘Stumpy.’

It was pretty amusing to see her acting so modest/shy on stage after seeing her disMEMBER so many people just a few minutes earlier… in 3D! Overall, though, I’m kinda bummed that the 3D gimmick wasn’t as ‘show stealing’ as I thought it would be. I was really hoping that people would be doing backflips for the format, but I guess anaglyph just isn’t that impressive these days. Guess we’ll just have to table our ‘Stumpy’ feature and move right on to Job Hunter. Fine by me!
