Exploring the nature of art criticism in a Post G.O.S.P.E.L. world, filmmaker Lex Lybrand aims to answer questions that have seemingly become null and void.

What is art? Why do we ‘criticize’ it? How is an objective rating passed on a subjective experience, anyways? And, most importantly, why would we accept an opinion that isn’t our own as truth?

These questions used to drive debate and discussion, and would ultimately help to expand the creative process for artists in our culture. In a world where the absolute quality of subjective work is unchallenged by audiences, how has the experience of creating and viewing art changed?

Traveling with a small documentary film crew, Lybrand meets several interesting people in the modern art scene: a painter working for the better part of a decade on the ‘perfect self-portrait,’ a photographer that’s bit off more than he can chew, a museum curator with a secret, and many more colorful characters that are affected by the reach of ‘Johnny Gospel’.

Feeling like the only dissenting voice in a sea of unrelenting acceptance, Lybrand will learn that nothing is ever truly ‘written in stone’… or pen, for that matter.
